Lora: "Ernest, I have something to tell you. The girl you were dating before you dated me? Amber was dating her first."

Luddite no longer
I finally registered on Facebook. What should I be using it for? What are the kids nowadays doing? I need to keep up with them so they don't make fun of me in 20 years. Or 10. Or more likely 5.

Halloween music
Eric and I went to see MacTuff on Halloween. That's not the important part. The important part is that before the show there was a band which a foreigner would call "mariachi" that was wandering up and down the streets of Ballard, with circles of dancing masked figures preceding them. The band had a bass drum with mounted cymbals, a snare, a sousaphone, two clarinets, and (IIRC) two valve trombones and three trumpets, and what I can only describe as a tenor baritone. It was pretty much phenomenal. Also a "Phenomenal berry" is what you get if you cross a raspberry with a blackberry, then do it again, then take those two results and cross them.

I bought several Baxter books at once, before finding out about Transcendent's true author. Now I'm reading his other trilogy.

Manifold: Time - takes place in the near future. And 200 years from then. And 1000 years from then. And 10^6 years from then. And 10^10 years from then. And 10^40 years from then. And 10^120 years from then. And in several universes very similar to our own. And in lots of universes not at all like our own. And it's claimed that Euclidean geometry is not self-aware, which is bull. That thing's obviously out to get you.

Manifold: Space - I haven't read this yet. It's unclear that there is more ground to cover except possibly to resolve the issue of the spaceborn cephalopods fleeing the post-humans' speed-of-light shockwave at just under the speed of light. I'm guessing this novel will be just pages and pages of tentacle porn. You're supposed to be able to read this before Time without any issues, which lends support to my theory.

Manifold: Origin - title suggests this is about pouring gin into orifices

Alice did thing A which is questionably moral or immoral. But our previously stated rules for determining the morality of an act say that her action was immoral, and Alice is our slave. Was Alice's action immoral?

1) yes
2) no

Stephen Baxter's Destiny's Children
a) Coalescent: takes place in essentially-present and a thousand years ago (give or take). Excellent novel, neat science fiction y ideas. Hooray.

b) Exultant: takes place thirty thousand years in the future (give or take) and throughout all of the history of the universe. Tons of great ideas and awesome gadgets. Sweet.

c) Transcendent: it is my firm belief that Baxter has an 8 year old kid who wrote this book. Granted, I am not done with it. So I guess I'm only claiming his kid wrote at least half of this book. What has happened, Mr. Baxter, sir, what has happened.
