[Link] | I had a nightmare* in which I dreamed that indexical uncertainty put me back in ~1994 with memories from 2009. I dreamt I experienced very weird things for two days in 2009 then found myself in 1994, as a 10-year-old, with my current memories. I also dreamt this was because of indexical uncertainty, and dreamwhen I realized I should start haxing the stock market I also realized it took me so long to figure that out that I must have the cognitive power of my 1994-self with the memories of my 2009-self, so I determined to find others with practiced brains who could best use my future-memories. Dreamthen I realized this state was inconsistent with the idea that indexical uncertainty was the cause, and woke up. That's how I remember it anyway. There were lots of other disturbing details like wondering what to tell my parents about their future-divorce.
*It's a nightmare when it wakes you up at 5 AM, regardless of any other facts.

Why was Sir Lamorak so insane? Thanks Google Translate!
Halliburton, hello,
Quote:
The question is at what Sir Lamorak occasions his ability really can use?
I have pointed Bruno asked:
Sir Lamorak may use his ability, - If it is because of a black discount card life points loses - When he lost during a Quest, - If it is against a siege engine loses the fight.
Sir Lamorak may not use his ability, - If it is a life issue sacrifices - During the phase of "progress of evil."

[Link] | Race for the Galaxy Amazing game. A gigantic tech tree where everything stacks with everything else. No leader bashing or direct conflict at all, not even the "I take Captain so that he can't" conflict in Puerto Rico, only parasitic leeching off of everyone else's actions. I played it yesterday over 10 times. Did I mention it's quick, too? Easily under an hour for 4 new players, and it looks like not-half-asleep 2 player games could be a mere 15-20 minutes.

Voter Fraud To the best of my knowledge, in Washington State precinct RED-48 3314, voter fraud changed the number of delegates from 3-1 Obama-Clinton to 4-0. Or if not voter fraud, at least duly elected-on-the-spot Tally Clerk mathematical incompetence or illiteracy changed the number. We'll see pending anyone at all figuring out what the actual vote split was for RED-48 3314.

Luddite no longer I finally registered on Facebook. What should I be using it for? What are the kids nowadays doing? I need to keep up with them so they don't make fun of me in 20 years. Or 10. Or more likely 5.

Halloween music Eric and I went to see MacTuff on Halloween. That's not the important part. The important part is that before the show there was a band which a foreigner would call "mariachi" that was wandering up and down the streets of Ballard, with circles of dancing masked figures preceding them. The band had a bass drum with mounted cymbals, a snare, a sousaphone, two clarinets, and (IIRC) two valve trombones and three trumpets, and what I can only describe as a tenor baritone. It was pretty much phenomenal. Also a "Phenomenal berry" is what you get if you cross a raspberry with a blackberry, then do it again, then take those two results and cross them.

[Link] | I bought several Baxter books at once, before finding out about Transcendent's true author. Now I'm reading his other trilogy.
Manifold: Time - takes place in the near future. And 200 years from then. And 1000 years from then. And 10^6 years from then. And 10^10 years from then. And 10^40 years from then. And 10^120 years from then. And in several universes very similar to our own. And in lots of universes not at all like our own. And it's claimed that Euclidean geometry is not self-aware, which is bull. That thing's obviously out to get you.
Manifold: Space - I haven't read this yet. It's unclear that there is more ground to cover except possibly to resolve the issue of the spaceborn cephalopods fleeing the post-humans' speed-of-light shockwave at just under the speed of light. I'm guessing this novel will be just pages and pages of tentacle porn. You're supposed to be able to read this before Time without any issues, which lends support to my theory.
Manifold: Origin - title suggests this is about pouring gin into orifices

Stephen Baxter's Destiny's Children a) Coalescent: takes place in essentially-present and a thousand years ago (give or take). Excellent novel, neat science fiction y ideas. Hooray.
b) Exultant: takes place thirty thousand years in the future (give or take) and throughout all of the history of the universe. Tons of great ideas and awesome gadgets. Sweet.
c) Transcendent: it is my firm belief that Baxter has an 8 year old kid who wrote this book. Granted, I am not done with it. So I guess I'm only claiming his kid wrote at least half of this book. What has happened, Mr. Baxter, sir, what has happened.
